In September 2010 I successfully applied for a QA/QC position at South African Express Airways (SAX) and offered the position of QA/QC aircraft structures. This was another great opportunity to increase my skills and experience in the quality field. My duties included but not limited to advising, training of structural personnel, inspection( Bombardier-Dash8-300; Q400 and regional jet CRJ 200;300;700 fleet), reporting on all structural work and maintenance done on their fleet of aircraft, writing procedures for third party contractors, implementing a documented system that complies with SACAA requirements for third party contractors, checking the Bombardier website for latest Airworthiness directives and applicability, internal auditing, in-house assessments of all maintenance areas for their adherence to civil aviation requirements, including labeling of components, tool boxes, stores etc. Liaise with engineering department on repairs and work done by third party contractors and ensuring correctness and completion of work done, completion of documentation before aircraft can be released for service. Assist personnel on maintenance requirements, repairs done, attend maintenance meetings and resolving problems w.r.t. aircraft maintenance, parts, spares etc. Assist the maintenance manager by evaluating third party quotes for correctness and to prevent duplication of work, cost cutting, ensuring third party contractors adhere to civil aviation and company requirements.

Quality Control Inspector

In February 2008 I was approached by Denel SAAB aerostructures and offered the position off Quality controller within their manufacturing and production environment. We were manufacturing components for the Agusta helicopters on behalf of Agusta Westland/Finmecanica, components for Boeing aircraft, SAAB Grippen fighter aircraft, Honda jet and Airbus. I accepted the position as it was a great opportunity to get more experience on the manufacturing, production line, special processes side of international aircraft companies. My duties included but not limited to leading and advising technical personnel, inspection of sub-assemblies, next higher assemblies and final assembly before delivery to relevant clients and ensuring customer specifications and contractual requirements are met. Perform joint inspection with the OEM,s and solving configuration problems. Assist the Quality engineers (QE) with compiling and documenting First Article inspections (FAI), QCP?s, ITP?s , quality plans etc. Reject non-conforming parts and assemblies and placing the items labeled in quarantine until the next available Maintenance Review Board ( MRB). Act as chairperson on material review boards (MRB) where decisions regarding the disposition of rejected parts and assemblies are made. Raising of non-conformances to shop floor regarding non-conforming work and communicate with customers regarding the status of nonconformities as required. Attending and resolving customer complaints. Perform inspection on bought out items or customer supplied items. Participating in internal audits on housekeeping, stores, components, jigs, production orders/task orders completion. Compile Quality Data packs after Final Inspection for customer acceptance.

Started as an apprentice, aircraft sheet metal worker, at South African Airways technical after completing my military training. I have completed my trade test at COT training center in Elandsfontein as an aircraft sheet metal worker in April 1996. During my time at SAAT I completed all relevant aircraft courses, SACAA courses and acquired my full certification (Licensed Aircraft Engineer, type 1) on aircraft structures and components and aircraft plumbing. I had the opportunity to be in numerous senior positions leading and responsible for a group of personnel varying from 8 to 20 personnel, positions included production leader aircraft structure maintenance and production planner(project management). My duties included repair, modification of aircraft structures and its components, compiling of project plans/schedules for relevant maintenance on aircraft, time keeping and capturing of task orders/job cards, progress meetings, allocation of work to different personnel, liaising with Boeing/Airbus and SAA engineering on problem solving, planning of maintenance and modifications of aircraft. Ensuring spare parts and components are procured before maintenance can commence and ensuring of aircraft on-time delivery. After maintenance completion and before I can release any tasks completed, I have to ensure all work is done correctly and according to the latest revised drawings and repair manuals, signed off, inspected and documentation are completed and system updated before aircraft can be released for service.

TUV NORD/Eskom offered position/senior advisor QA procurement. I have an assistant, Auditors, quality engineers, quality controllers, procurement personnel, expeditors that reports to me. Compile weekly and comprehensive monthly report and report back to senior management. Area of responsibility is Senior QA lead for all projects/commodities in the Cape Province. Duties include,not limited to advising/assisting business units w.r.t. continuous improvement, customer focus, Internal and supplier audits/assessments. Lead all QA activities for projects, commodities, maintenance, procurement and engineering. Participate procurement meetings from strategy to contract. Develop Quality Strategy for Commercial strategy based on lessons learned. Ensure Quality Engineering/SHE input during strategy phase. Capability/QMS assessments and site visits on suppliers/contractors. Compile reports on evaluations/assessments done, identify risks/gaps before contract award. Review contracts ensuring requirements are embedded as per ISO9001-2008/regulatory/company requirements. Review Contract Quality Plans submitted/Liaise with engineering/projects department on relevance to scope of work. Attend negotiation meetings with supplier/contractor and clarify deliverables as requested. Assisting/advising Suppliers/Contractors /SME?s in implementing ISO quality management systems. Monitor suppliers during execution phase/report any misconduct, breach of contract and risks identified. Supplier/contractor approval after ensuring processes, audits, assessments are done and followed according to company requirements. Manage supplier data base.
