I was involved the metal accounting process wherin PGM's platinum groups metal are liberated from ore through separation by the fire assay. Fire assay requires that undesirable waste material like silica from soil be remove via a purging process wherin the matal sinks to the base of a crusible and the slag waste rises to the top. The lead pgm metal it further processed until a minute bit sized metal is obtained and messured by mass and accounted. The accounting serves to aid mining dirdirective.
