Job Experience

Librarian - Regional

National prosecuting Authority of South Africa

September 2007 to Actually working here

2. I graduated in year 2000 at the Port Elizabeth Techikon (NMMU) with the Library and Information qualification. For the past 15 years till to date I have had the pleasure of being both the Academic Librarian and an Legal librarian. Currently, I am running the Regional Library for the National Prosecuting Authority in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape. I have started working here in September 2007 till to date. I am also responsible for our nearby clusters which are Queenstown, Bisho and Graafreinet.
3. One of my primary responsibilities over the years has been to run a high level office administration, start from scratch a Resource Centre in NMMU (CAREER CENTRE). My primary duties included purchasing of new materials; processing and circulating of all library collection and to ensure that this collection is managed effectively for easy accessibility and most importantly for the benefit of my patrons.
4. This includes conducting researches from within the business units by information audit questionnaires as to identify the problem areas and which material they would still wish to have in the library collection.
5. After finishing up my in-service training at the resource centre, I got my qualification and shortly I was employed as the Library Assistant at NMMU. That is where I got my major training under the strict supervision of Mrs Marietha Allwright (head of circulation, Mrs Roelin Clarke (circulation), Mr Phillip Clarke (head of cataloguing) and Miss Desiree Minnaar (cataloguing). Those are the 2 departments that I got my experience from. I worked for NMMU since 2001 till August 2007.
6. I then joined the NPA September 2007 till to date. At the NPA (regional library), I do from selection of books, (head office does the purchasing), I do the cataloguing, processing, classification and circulation. I am also responsible for conducting trainings for the aspirant prosecutors on all databases used to retrieve information, and on updating of loose-leaf material. Good report writing, minutes taking and general processing of the information are my strongest points and as I am dealing directly with the Director of the Public Prosecutions, SPP?s and corporate services at large.
