To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to submit my resume for the Commercial Photographer assignment you have posted.
I have over 30 years of hands on working experience in commercial photography and this type of assignment is very familiar to me.
I have done many types of commercial photography such as product, food, architectural, editorial and jewelry in studio and on location. Over the many projects I have worked on I have acquired a wealth of experience in lighting, how to plan a shoot, how to execute it, how to shoot it and most importantly how to do it on time and on budget.
I have worked with large and small companies such as Kodak Canada where I was the head photographer and project manager for a special digitization project with one of Canada's largest museums. During those years I taught my employees how to shoot museum artifacts and produce high quality commercial images in a production type environment. Over the years we photographed over 500,000 artefacts and digitized over 250,000 slides and documents.
Two other clients of mine Farmboy Inc. And Jupiter Images had similar product photography projects.
At Farmboy Inc. During an 18 month period I was hired to photograph and create a bank of images of a variety of products on a bi-weekly basis for their sales adverts. Coordinating with the marketing department I photographed a variety of food and nonfood products.
With Jupiter Images, I was hired to create a bank of 9,000 photo-object images on white backgrounds of different objects and people. To complete this project I assembled a team consisting of models, photographer, editor and a product wrangler. The project had a lot of moving parts that had to be coordinated such as, products to be shot, models to be hired, securing shooting locations and post production timelines. Working together over several months we completed the project within the required timeline for the launch of the online image service.
In any of the commercial project I have done my main task was to ensure we met the production and budget goals of our client but I also had to make sure we followed the corporate guidelines in doing so.
Throughout my career I kept up my photographic education by attending various seminars on lighting, posing, composition, post production and by competing in PPOC provincial and national image salons. I have over the years won many awards and accreditations which are great but the learning is in the process of producing great imagery. In 2012 the Professional Photographers of Canada awarded me the designation of Master of Photographic Arts (MPA) and in the fall PPOC-ON selected me as the 2012 Commercial Photographer of the Year for Ontario.
You can see some of my work on my website at www.jeanchartrand.com and I would welcome the opportunity to meet and discuss the ways in which my skills and background and work style would be an asset to your organization.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,

Jean Chartrand MPA, APPO
