Led 12 professionals in automotive OE quality, plant process development, program launch, and supplier development.  Included process oversight and maintenance of proprietary process at customer location.  Served as interim production manager for 60 associates. Peak sales year of $440M with 400 plus associates. Business is manufacture of automotive front wheel drive bearings with anti-lock braking system signal.
·         Led development effort that resulted in corporate award 2 consecutive years for Quality Management System.  Based on 8 performance criteria relative to 88 other plants.
·         Reduced supplier pass-through complaints more than 75% by establishing business expectations, feedback, product testing, and visual standards.
·         Initiated cross functional team to develop roles, responsibilities, and process for supplier management on corporate and local manufacturing level.
·         Saved millions of dollars of future containment costs ($2M annual) by identifying pertinent design criteria that validated design for manufacturability in supply chain.

Managed 12 person staff to drive improved customer complaint performance and new product launches in 800 person, 1 million square foot manufacturing and distribution center.  Ninety five per cent automotive aftermarket with annual sales of $175M and 10,000 part number portfolio.  Guided environmental assessment.
Business is automotive exhaust system including muffler, pipes and catalytic converters.
·         Reduced non-conforming behaviors 59% and parts per million defective (PPM) more than 50% by auditing required standard work practices and communicating results.
·         Certified as ISO / QS-9000 Lead Auditor.
·         Performed warranty analysis on customer product, resulting in positive customer response.

Engineering, Environmental and Maintenance Manager

TORRINGTON COMPANY (INGERSOLL-RAND)

January 1987 to August 1997

Directed staff of 80 engineers, maintenance supervisors, and technicians to provide engineering for processes and physical plant, maintenance, environmental and OSHA issue negotiation, design, and construction.  Forecasted and managed annual budgets for labor, capital and expense requirements including multi-million dollar capital expenditures.  Emphasized mentoring of individuals and team coaching. Business is spherical roller bearing manufacturing from 4 to 166 inch diameter.
·         Raised maintenance effectiveness from 0 to 65% planned work and 95% machine uptime on key processes by reorganizing structure, establishing different priorities, implementing preventive maintenance, and justifying capital expenditure for major machine rebuild.
·         Justified and completed multi-million dollar projects on monthly schedule and within forecasted budget, enabling dependable cash flow critical to corporate.
·         Reduced electrical and housekeeping costs $344K annually by analyzing expenditures and alternatives, bidding scopes of work, and validating new business contracts.
·         Engineered fast track solution to reduce lead exposure to employees while production was suspended.
·         Designed and validated solution, preventing delivery delays and satisfactorily addressing associate health concerns.

Supervised 130+ person production departments in continuous and batch processes in paperboard and converting mill. Consistently met production quality, and delivery goals. Analyzed alternatives to implement millions of dollars of capital upgrades. Trained and qualified personnel to use new technology and processes.  Maintenance responsibility included all crafts: electrical, mechanical, instrument, pipefitting, welding.
·         Persuaded union on need to establish documented and tested promotion criteria.
·         Successfully represented company during formal OSHA complaint investigation.
·         Engineered, purchased and implemented trouble free complete electro-mechanical retrofit including controls and gearboxes for synchronized plastic extrusion to make laminated paperboard products.
