Reporting to the esg executive director, the senior manager: environmental and social (e&s) has the following responsibilities: .

Head office responsibilities.
O ensure actis renewable energy platform ?bte renewables (pty) ltd? investments are applied in legal compliant, environmentally and social sustainable manner;.
O in collaboration with the esg executive director mitigate bte renewables (pty) ltd environmental and social risks and maximise the potential of community and environmental programmes for transformational long-term impact;.
O develop and maintain corporate and projects? esms aligned to the equator principles and/or ifc standards and other global best practice;.
O with understanding of the sector identify emerging e&s risks and advise preventative actions;.
O work with investment team, financial modellers and integrate e&s matters into projects? acquisitions, due diligence, related disclosures, target setting and bid locally and internationally;.
O conduct internal and/or respond to various lender?s esg audits;.
O undertake pre-investment esg dds locally and international, identify environmental, social, labour, working conditions (health and safety) and legal compliance risks, identify opportunities for improvement and management of risks and mitigation costs;.
O provide specialist input on other tasks as directed by the chief executive officer and esg executive director i. E. Preparation of esg budget, e&s presentation to the board, revision of the objectives and kpis;.
O maintain permits expiry date tracker, legal and high level risks register;.
O collect data from construction and operational projects and produce lenders bi-annual and other e&s monitoring reports; and.
O attend site visits and engage with authorities, ltas, ngos, industry associations and other external stakeholders. Ensure active participation in working groups.

Greenfield pipeline/project development.
O evaluation of potential sites, negotiations with authorities, community leaders and various stakeholders, detailed site studies for selected site, including ground investigations, grid integration studies and e&s scoping; and support to the tender process (e. G. Tailoring of technical specs, bid evaluation);.
O site selection and development of suitable greenfield solar and wind projects across africa including permitting and licensing as required;.
O perform desktop e&s assessment of new greenfield sites leading to the generation the pipeline renewable energy investment project to be considered;.
O conduct site visits to collect e&s, topographical, geotechnical, and related site information for use in the design of power systems;.
O assessment of grid connection options in the form of feasibility studies, applications, process and costs from a e&s compliance perspective, working with the grid technical team; .
O selection and appointment of various studies consultants, which include the drafting of the request for proposal, scope of work and drafting of the consultancy agreement;.
O manage the eia, esia, resettlement, livelihoods restoration, reforestation processes which are equator principles and/or ifc aligned; .
O co-ordinate the studies and implementation activities between consultants, landowners, communities, governmental bodies; etc. ;.
O quality assure studies reports to ensure that conclusions and recommendations are commercial, risk and sustainability focused;.
O get all e&s related permits; and.
O travel locally and into the african continent.

Preferred bidder projects.
O prepare and manage the submission of the bid book hse section;.
O prepare the hse and land permits for preferred bidder projects in preparation for financial close; and.
O close all common terms agreement ?cta? e&s requirements in preparation for financial closure.

Biotherm energy facilities management (construction and operational).
O close out epap findings;.
O take lead role in the design, implementation and maintenance of the esms as per iso 14001 and ifc standards as well as esmps to ensure that risks are effectively managed;.
O review and approve epc contractor hse plan;.
O provide eshs advice and support to the biotherm energy construction and operational site staff;.
O ensure that legal appointments are in place and maintained;.
O ensure legal compliance;.
O provide review of the epc contractor risk assessments and method statement (rams);.
O where required conduct accident, non-compliance and grievance investigations, identify trends, share lessons learnt and implement precautionary measures to prevent re-occurrence;.
O oversee the implementation of the stakeholder engagement plan, social and economic development plan and ensure the establishment and maintenance of good working relationships between the project and its diverse stakeholders;.
O management oversight and support of the onsite eco, h &s officer and agent, environmental officer, clos and ir officer during project construction phase;.
O conduct internal compliance including labour audits, feedback reports and presentations to management and also manage independent external compliance auditing;.
O monitor all bird and bat monitoring programs;.
O ensure compliance with the eas, emprs, and other permit conditions;.
O implement recommendation of birds and bats monitoring and manage crisis?s within eshs effectively and efficiently;.
O timeous closing of all eshs capas; and.
O monitor and report on epc contractor eshs performance.

Covid-19 compliance.
O acting the as the covid-19 compliance officer for bte renewables hq office.
